ENrG Incorporated and Corning Incorporated have a history of close collaboration that began over a decade ago when Corning licensed its ultra-thin, flexible zirconia ceramic technology to ENrG.  Since then, ENrG has marketed and manufactured zirconia ceramic sheets for use in a variety of applications including fuel cells, electronics and gas sensors. 

Today, ENrG and Corning continue to work together to advance this technology and have developed a revolutionary roll-to-roll (R2R) ceramic processing method to manufacture high quality, fully dense zirconia ceramic ribbon in R2R format, which is an important accomplishment in the processing of inorganic materials.  Corning and ENrG leveraged Corning's deep understanding of ceramic engineering and modeling to define and optimize the process window to deliver excellent ribbon shape and surface quality.  This innovative product, Zirconia Ribbon Ceramic is now commercially available for purchase through ENrG.

Zirconia Ribbon Ceramic in R2R format can be used in downstream manufacturing of products, and leads to increased manufacturing productivity with less energy usage, and a better quality product.

Zirconia Ribbon Ceramic can help power the Internet of Things, and enable everyday objects to send and receive data over the Internet.  This ultra-thin, yet robust ceramic substrate has a smoother surface with fewer defects, and chemical inertness to lithium, making it an ideal solution for use in high energy density, long-life micro-batteries that power smart cards, sensors, wearables, and more. 

Zirconia Ribbon Ceramic is currently available in thicknesses of 20 and 40 microns in ribbon roll lengths of 10, 15, or 20 meters.  It can also be cut to custom lengths or singulated to desired size. 

In addition to continuing to develop Zirconia Ribbon Ceramic with ENrG, Corning is also developing alumina based ceramic technology, which could be used for applications that require a dielectric material with high thermal conductivity.  The alumina ceramic is currently in process development, but can be available for sampling.  Please contact Corning for inquiries regarding alumina ceramic.
