Ultra-thin, Flexible, Zirconia Ceramic Ribbon, Sheets and Wafer Substrates for Advanced Product Performance

ENrG markets and manufactures Thin E-Strate®, an ultra-thin flexible fully dense zirconia based ceramic substrate. ENrG licensed this remarkable ceramic technology from Corning Incorporated. There are no other self-supporting ceramic membrane products on the market this thin, with the ability to flex and handle extreme transitions in temperature.  ENrG believes industry trends including wearables, non-planar surfaces, and thinner and lighter weight are in play that provide for rapid market expansion for Thin E-Strate®.

ENrG Inc. first introduced Thin E-Strate® as an electrolyte into the solid oxide fuel cell market, but soon had inquiries for other markets requiring a thin, flexible ceramic.  ENrG Inc. has sold the material into 24 market segments and climbing through 2016.  This provides a stable manufacturing platform for the material  - -  at lower costs to customers by combining the volume production in one facility.

ENrG Inc. announced the availability of Thin E-Strate in roll-to-roll (R2R) format in 2016.  Look for more in 2017 on Zirconia Ribbon Ceramic.

Why R2R?  Less energy consumption to fabricate, increased productivity, and better quality product.

R2R format will enable an in-line, coatable format of the Thin E-Strate® product. Unlike plastic films in which temperature and humidity affect roll-to-roll (R2R) handling and alignment, Thin E-Strate®is stable, inert and is translucent for two-sided coating registration.

Advantages of Using Thin E-Strate®

Thin E-Strate® for active or passive device fabrication. More robust than silicon.

As a ceramic, 3YSZ is inert, of high purity, tolerates processing temperatures to 1200°C, and with its low thermal mass can tolerate high thermal shock during deposition or coating processes.

Being ultra thin to 20 microns thick, it presents a very low thermal resistance path for heat removal and a super thin profile for component coating.  Multi-layers of active layer coated Thin E-Strate® can easily be stacked into low profile components.
